Best Retro Game Collections for Switch: Which Should You Buy?

This covers officially purchasable retro game collections for Switch, not the platform's full back catalog of individual re-releases; our Switch availability guide tracks individual titles separately.

Included 90s games

The Contra Anniversary Collection gathers ten entries in Konami's Contra series, including several original 90s releases, according to its own product listing and Nintendo's official product page. That makes it a single-purchase way to access multiple original games at once, rather than buying individual re-releases separately.

Emulation and extras

Collections like this typically bundle a quick-save function not present in the original releases, along with bonus material such as developer interviews, according to the product's own listing. That's a meaningful convenience difference from playing the originals on period-accurate hardware.

Physical edition contents

Physical Switch releases of retro collections often ship as limited print runs through publishers like Limited Run Games, separate from a standard digital storefront listing. Check which specific edition a listing describes before buying if a particular physical extra matters to you.

Value by play style

• Want the original run-and-gun games with modern conveniences: a multi-game collection like this is the straightforward pick.
• Want a single specific 90s title and nothing else: check our Nintendo Games hub and the Switch availability guide linked above for individual re-releases instead.
