90s Games on PS4: Collections, Ports and Remakes
PS4's 90s access mostly comes through remasters and collections built by the original rights holders, rather than the original PS1 discs running directly.
Native PS4 releases
Titles like Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (2017) and Spyro Reignited Trilogy (2018) are native PS4 releases built specifically for the hardware, not the original PS1 discs running through emulation.

Publisher-assembled collections bundling several original games together, sometimes with light quality-of-life additions like save states, are a separate category from full visual remasters.
Remakes vs. originals
A remaster like N. Sane Trilogy rebuilds visuals on largely the same underlying design as the original; a full remake goes further and can change level design, controls, or content outright. Check a specific listing's description carefully, since "remaster," "remake," and "collection" get used inconsistently in marketing.
Regional availability
Licensing for older franchises can vary by storefront region, so a title's PS4 availability in one country doesn't guarantee it's listed the same way everywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Are PS4 remasters the same as the original PS1 games?
Not exactly. A remaster like Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy rebuilds the visuals substantially on a modern engine, distinct from the original PS1 discs, even though it preserves the original level design.
What's the difference between a remaster and a remake?
A remaster generally rebuilds visuals on the same underlying design as the original. A remake goes further and can change level design, controls, or content outright.
Is every 90s game available on PS4 in every region?
No. Licensing for older franchises can vary by storefront region, so check the PS4 store in your own region rather than assuming availability elsewhere applies to you.
